Wedded Bliss // Wedding Editorial

Washington, D.C.

When planning this editorial we were envisioning something beautiful, soft, and elegant. We wanted our trip, and shoot, to serve a few purposes. We wanted to both meet new people as well as partner with some vendors with whom relationships had been budding.  We also knew that whoever was going to model for us had to be genuinely, deeply in love.

Enter Alli and Eric, a couple that technically still counts as newlyweds since their anniversary at the time was not for another month.  They are wonderfully eccentric and   amiable while somehow maintaining  competitive tendencies.  I had the pleasure of connecting with Eric on a number of unexpected topics, from the fact that he shoots film to the fact we have the same pair of favorite jeans.  Amanda got to connect with Alli in talking about the creativity that goes into planning a wedding day and reminiscing together about their wedding days.

As Amanda and I are not natives to the area (it was Amanda’s first time in D.C.!), we had our experts suggest some photogenic spots where they would feel comfortable being photographed.  We found some really quaint places in Georgetown (where Alli changed into the dress in a bike shop) and were able to find success along a boardwalk on the Potomac.

By far the highlight of the evening occurred as we  were walking down the boardwalk. Restaurant-goers started cheering enormously for the wedded couple!  Everyone was so excited that they got married (even if it was about 9 months prior, but they didn’t know that). Eric and Alli responded with waves, fist pumps and bouquet flourishes and the smile that they exchanged afterward  was truly special.

We finished our shoot near the pillars of the Kennedy Center, taking in the grand scale of it all. After concluding our shoot and the sun had set, we went to a pub and talked politics (standard).
