Amherst, Ohio
This family was PREPARED. We walked up their driveway to find their door cracked open for us, inviting us in.
Upon entering, we immediately noted the two boys, Alex and Sam, playing close to the entry way. Meanwhile, Mom and Dad were in the kitchen, excitedly waiting for our first idea to get some meaningful family photographs.
We started out by the end of their driveway, where trees and a large rock mark where many photos have been taken before: Easter photos, wow we look nice today photos, family photos of the neighbors…it’s all in the neighborhood!
We were a little wary of how the boys would respond to our cameras–it isn’t every day that someone is looking at you, expecting you to hold still for a minute. Luckily, that isn’t our style for too long. We like to say that we get the “grandma shots”, aka the ones that your grandma will want to put on her mantel. That way we have the more traditional things covered.
What we really prefer, though, are those more organic moments. We give a suggestion, and the family runs with it. This family did that to the MAX! Alex and Sam were such good sports, and they gave us a few hints that they like Matt and I as people (“Can they come over to hang out some Friday night?” “Can you guys take ALL our family pictures?” “Would you like some travel snacks before you leave?”). They were such a blast!
We ended the evening down the road from their home at a nearby farm with pumpkins out front. Right away, Sam plunked down on one of the pumpkins; Alex jetted toward the trailer with the most pumpkins on it. This family was so at home outside and so at home together–we couldn’t have asked for a better session!
