Where do we even start with this couple?  We were connected via a kindred spirit and quickly found that this new friendship has similar potential.  We’ve only known Makenzie and Nick for a year, but it feels like much longer.  We’re fortunate to call them friends.  

Their wedding day started with hunting and Beyonce (we’ll let you figure out who was doing what) and good vibes all around.  The bridal party was so excited for Makenzie and Nick, and they got stuff done like nobody’s business!  While we were creating images of the wedding day details, we witnessed the hustle and bustle of the bridesmaids finishing the touches on centerpiece setup and place card settings.  People were bending over backwards for Makenzie and Nick (we’re convinced it’s their magnetic charm!).

The ceremony itself was beautiful.  The priest used Nick’s love of the outdoors in the homily, the flower girl and ring bearer made it down the aisle without a qualm, and Makenzie lovingly deterred a too-early kiss (because it’s basically wedding rules that you can’t kiss the bride until the priest says so…right?).  The humor and excitement was shared by many!

We took some time after the ceremony to create images of the bridal party, but one of the more special moments (although it’s a wedding…every moment is noteworthy!) was when the party bus rolled up to 94-year-old Grandpa Vince’s nursing home.   Grandpa Vince and Nick have kindred souls; Nick was really excited to have Vince at the wedding.  The day before the wedding, we got a call from Makenzie that Grandpa Vince wouldn’t be able to attend, so we brought the wedding to him!  When Makenzie and Nick walked in the room, Grandpa Vince took out his phone to take a picture of them, even though we were there to take a picture with him!  There were a fair share of misty eyes all around the room.   How fortunate we were to witness and take part in this beautiful moment.

What followed was a crazy fun party (with some more tears, of course–the Father Daughter dance warrants that just about every time) with SO much dancing and laughter.  We had a fantastic time celebrating with Makenzie and Nick, and there might have been a dance-off between Nick and Amanda (it was an even tie, no worries!).  

As we were getting ready to leave, it was incredibly bittersweet.  It was the end of something, but it was also the beginning of something else.  We won’t just remain wedding photographers to Makenzie and Nick–we’re going to be friends and life photographers.  We told Makenzie we were leaving and she teared up and said, “I love you.”  And we teared up, too (and Amanda also expressed the love!).  That’s how we know we did our job right.
