I’ve been shooting film for a little while now and I have some confessions to make. First off, it’s maddening. It’s slow and it’s expensive. Despite all my best efforts I still find myself praying that the images will come out beautifully because there’s no way to be 100% sure.
And yet, despite all those reasons, I absolutely love shooting film. There’s something about it that just feels good. It makes me slow down, it makes me focus. It forces me to evaluate each and every image I make. By taking away the ability to review my images I have to nail it the first time, there are no do-overs.
Shooting film is making me a better photographer and I’m so excited to be incorporating it more and more in the stories I am blessed to tell.⠀It’s organic and real.
Film gives me freedom to create again, to slow down, breathe and take a leap.
I owe a huge thank you to Mastin Labs for pushing me to begin shooting film. If you are a photographer interested in film emulation or are simply looking for some incredible presets, I strongly recommend looking into Mastin. As if their products weren’t amazing enough, the community that has arisen around them is by far one of the most supportive and fun groups of creatives I have met.
It’s also important recognize another very crucial player in this process, The Find Lab. They’re the reason you are able to see digital copies of all the above images. They’ve been incredibly helpful and supportive to me throughout this whole endeavor, granted they may have a vested interest in my shooting more film but I digress. 😉
