The thing that usually sets a photographer apart is that their way of seeing the world is unique. Or perhaps more importantly, uniquely beautiful. The challenge with being a creative business is that as time goes on and you figure out how to replicate and share the way you see the world, it’s easy to fall into patterns. In fact, it’s even important to do so; clients have expectations and they’ve begun hiring you to see their day in the same uniquely beautiful way that you’ve seen other couples.

And that’s a huge blessing.

In order to continually ensure we can deliver the best work possible, though, it’s necessary to change things up. To play, to experiment, to use different poses and different angles. This shoot with Lindsey and Fer was the perfect way to do that. We knew we wanted it to feel slightly more modern and minimal. Fortunately, Foyer provided the perfect environment for that and I absolutely love how much we were able to incorporate the minimal decor and neutral colors of the setting into these images and how seamlessly they set the tone for the rest of the shoot.

After stopping for lunch at Bakersfield Tacos, we continued the same theme of trying new things by heading to the Flats, an area of Cleveland we rarely ever shoot in. While it’s filled with interesting locations, it lacks the small details and natural elegance that we are naturally drawn to.

I wanted to play with shadows and see the city in all black and white. It was simultaneously freeing and challenging, but I’m so in love with how these images feel. I cannot wait to see what from this shoot we incorporate more deeply into our normal creative patterns.
