“Is that one it?”
“The one next to the one with all the people? Could be.”
Such was a conversation between Matt and I as we were trying to locate Makenzie and Nick’s home. We knew that Makenzie and Nick truly cherish their weekends together, so we were excited they wanted a lifestyle shoot to capture this season of anticipation. That almost-but-not-yet feeling of having found the one you love but not quite having sealed the deal.
It’s an exciting yet stressful place to be.
We brought wine.
“You guys can park in the drive; we’re on our way out!” exclaimed a woman as she walked out of a house to the driveway with packed with cars that were spilling out into the road. We connected the dots and found the woman was Makenzie’s mother. She (and an assorted crew of people that love Makenzie and Nick) had come over to help prep the house for the shoot.
And it showed.
When we walked in, we were greeted with emphatic kisses and tail-wagging galore from their black lab, Bo. Matt was essentially in heaven.
Once we put our things down, we got to take a look around. It was like stepping into Better Homes & Gardens. Vintage treasures dotted the living room, waiting to see if you would take notice of them. The kitchen was bright with natural light and had beautiful food displays (holla)! The whole house was evidence that the people living there were trying to make it a home.
More than the beautiful physical appearance of Makenzie and Nick’s home was their hospitality. It is so rare to find people who will go out of their way to be kind to others, and these two do it. They think about more than themselves and have a generous nature to them (how lucky that they share that as a couple!). Plus they love each other profoundly, so they have that going for them, too. 😉
We spent the afternoon talking, eating, shooting, capturing awkward moments, listening to country and songs from Top Gun, capturing endearing moments, trying to convince Bo that he should be in one spot, witnessing love, and drinking coffee and wine. That’s my kind of afternoon.
