Allie & Tommy // Engagement Session
The first time we met Allie and Tommy in person was...today. Usually when we're working with couples to navigate whether or not we're a good fit, we have the opportunity to sit down with them and get a better idea of what they're like. This time was different. We got on the phone with Allie, talked about her and Tommy's plans for their wedding, and were so excited at the prospect of telling their story right away (early summer vineyard wedding, intimate bridal party/celebration, live music...what's not to love?). We felt confident going forward that we would be a great fit once we got together!
That being said, engagement shoots are always (ALWAYS) a little awkward at the beginning. I can say this from having shot many of them myself, but I can also say from personal experience--engagement shoots are not the most natural thing. They can get uncomfortable really quickly, and who wants photos of themselves looking timid? Confidence is what we're after--you're marrying this person! You're in love! What's not to be confident about? Except it isn't always that simple.
Every couple has to take the plunge into this kind of territory at one time or another--you're not quite sure what the two of you are doing, though you have an end goal in mind, and the road is a little uncomfortable at times but hilarious at others. You might as well have that kind of experience during an engagement shoot rather than life circumstance ;)
Allie and Tommy took this challenge in stride in one of their favorite places to be together--Kent. Tommy studied there for part of his schooling in aviation (how cool is that?!), and Allie would visit him there where they would develop their relationship. Matt and I loved being able to see them shine in different parts of Kent on a beautiful day in April.
