Ashland Balloonfest & Bicentennial // Event
Independence Day weekend brought some special opportunities for Matt Erickson Photography. One of these was the most highly attended activity we have ever seen at one time in Ashland, Ohio. Every year, Ashland hosts Balloonfest, a festival where hot air balloons, fair food, and kindhearted people come to play together. This was our first Balloonfest experience, which added another layer of appreciation. We were able to watch balloons sync their fires to songs during Balloonfest’s Glow event, and there were also take off and landings for everyone to enjoy. One of the surprising things about Balloonfest was the number of people there—Ashland boasts 20,000 people in their community, and a significant amount of people made it out to see the festivities!
Not only was this weekend Balloonfest for Ashland, but it was also the celebration of their bicentennial! This called for a whole new kind of celebration, with a two-hour parade involving around 200 units. Some of our personal favorites included beautiful vintage cars, energetic puppies in t-shirts, and the Budweiser Clydesdales—it was pretty incredible! Such a special event drew out another large group of people, with only standing room along the parade route. This kind of thing is CRAZY for the community of Ashland—usually their parade is a push/pull where the kids dress up and get pushed in a stroller or pulled in a wagon down Main Street. We were so glad to be able to be part of this historic celebration in the old college town.
It’s a great day to take a photo.
