I’ve learned a lot of lessons over the nearly 5 years that I’ve been doing photography professionally. I’ve also learned that in photography, just like pretty much everything in life, people are just making it up as they go along. Granted, there are those who are a little further ahead, but for the most part, we are all just doing our best to create beautiful things and serve our clients well.

To do that, I know that I have to be continually learning, playing and discovering what the next great image I create will be. Attending the Hybrid Collective is one of the ways I make sure that happens. I participated in three different editorials this year in Nashville and I’m excited to finally share them with you all!

This particular shoot was a little bit outside my comfort zone but I wanted to push myself. It was described as the perfect editorial for a “color loving, contemporary photographer”. Sounds great, right? Except that while I like lots of color, I generally prefer more neutral and subtle tones and while I can see my work moving in a more unique and modern direction, I always want to maintain a sense of timelessness.

Despite my uncertainty, I knew that that there would be many opportunities to stretch my creative muscles and that had me really excited. Oh and the fact that we’d be working with couture designer gowns paired with stunning jewelry and shoes helped a bit too. I knew that no matter what this shoot was going to be fancy.

While the initial intention was for the shoot to be located in a clean white wedding space our actual venue ended up being quite dark, especially for shooting film. While the Noelle Nashville is absolutely stunning venue we had the terrible luck of heavily overcast skies for our entire shoot.

That being said, the inside still came together incredibly and color truly was bursting from nearly every corner of the room. Carrie Mo, owner and lead designer of Type A Society , created three massive, live floral pillars each matching with a corresponding high fashion gowns. All of the colors were combined in the stunning tablescape you see below. All together, I think what stuck out to me about this shoot were the unique textures, vibrant colors and ultra modern details.
